Why Wiping Door Handles and High Touch Areas is So Important

Updated: Aug 9

To prevent sickness, offices should clean high-touch areas first. By reducing the number of sick days taken by employees and raising morale, cleaning handles and high touch areas not only make your workplace healthier for everyone but also help your company stay productive.

What are High touch Areas?

Locations in your building that receive a lot of foot traffic are known as high-touch areas. This makes these places ideal breeding grounds for infectious diseases like the flu. The facility must ensure that there are hand sanitiser points, hand-washing reminders and other measures to prevent contamination in high-touch areas. In addition to evening cleaning services it is advisable to have janitors on hand during the day to disinfect these heavily touched areas during peak foot traffic times. Some examples are:

●      Places that are used frequently, such as entrances and exits, railings, lift controls, light switches, chairs for waiting rooms and meetings, and so on

●      All surfaces in the bathroom such as the knobs of the toilets, the faucets, the doors, and the stalls

●      Desks, seats, phones, and computers are all examples of office equipment.

●      The break room's microwave, printers, control panels, tools, ice maker, refrigerator, and touch screens are all examples of shared equipment.

Tips to Keep Handles and High Touch Areas Clean

Antiseptic

The primary goal of surface cleaning is to reduce the likelihood of infectious spread. Applying disinfectant quickly can remove 80-95% of microorganisms, but it's difficult to remove all of them. Either use a spritser on the area with a thin mist of disinfectant. Then use a rag, sponge, or towel to wipe down the area or have antiseptic wipes on hand. They're convenient because they're packaged and they're equally as effective without the need for a bucket or spray bottle.

Clean at Regular Intervals - Before, During, and After Each Event

For the sake of safety every area with frequently touched surfaces must be cleaned daily, if not more frequently. Creating a timetable is the most efficient method for this. Wipe off the surfaces every time you open and close the door. To ensure that germs don't have a chance to multiply and pose a serious threat choose one to five additional points, throughout the workday to disinfect frequently touched surfaces.

Wipe Clean Handles and Railing Passing By

The second most effective strategy is an as-you-go method. Everyone on the team should sanitise every surface they touch or at least have disinfectant on hand (or have supplies close by). Using wipes can make this a breeze requiring no more effort than passing by. Take advantage of the constant foot activity in high-touch locations and have everyone help with in-passing sanitation.

Sanitiser Spray

The last choice is to set up automated sprayers that release disinfectant at predetermined or remotely adjustable intervals. Sanitising high touch areas such as handrails, counters, and restrooms could be a practical and cost-effective solution. A fine mist of quickly-drying disinfecting liquid can be emitted by small, remote-controlled nozzles. An automatic squeegee isn't necessary to prevent the spread of germs on high-touch surfaces, a little hand sanitiser goes a long way.
